"'The Big Lebowski' a Big Influence on Panic! at the Disco's New Album"
[03-28-2011] NEXT MOVIE
Call us obsessively movie-centric, but when we listen to a good, new album, we can't help wondering what the band was watching when they wrote and recorded the songs. So when we caught Panic! at the Disco before their appearance on MTV's 'The Seven,' it was the first thing we asked.
"This time around, I watched 'Big Lebowski' the most," singer/songwriter Brendon Urie told NextMovie. "That's one of my favorite movies."
"Whether or not it is conscious or subconscious, a lot of it does get into the record."
As for specifics? "The scene in 'Big Lebowski' where they use Kenny Rogers' 'Just Dropped In (To See What Condition My Condition Was In)' was amazing. That's actually what introduced me to that song for the first time. That beautiful scene -- or mini-film, I should say -- spans five minutes of the movie. It's just awesomely put together and edited. The song is such an event on its own, it kind of lends itself to creativity."
"There's a lot of The Dude [in this record]," he joked.
That said, Jeff "The Dude" Daniels isn't their first choice when fantasy-casting music videos.
"We love some videos that feature cameos -- the 'Mister Brightside' video for The Killers is awesome. Eric Roberts is in there, I thought that was really neat that they did that," Urie said, and laughed when admitting their first choice: "Bradley Cooper. He would be pretty nice to get."
"We talked about doing a video with as many people from 'The Office' that we could get -- Rainn Wilson and Ed Helms -- they were actually going to do it and a couple of them had said yes. But it was this big whole thing, where we couldn't end up doing it."
Urie and drummer Spencer Smith are gearing up for the European leg of their current tour; Panic! at the Disco's new album Vices & Virtues was released March 22, 2011.
